Mission Statement

Global Growth Youth Federation promotes the unifying power and worldwide diversity of song in underrepresented communities of Los Angeles.

Our voices.

GGYF’s programs provide youth performers and young professionals from underrepresented backgrounds opportunities to perform with and be mentored by accomplished professional singers. GGYF’s professional singers are members of the LA Opera and the Los Angeles Master Chorale and have performed on Broadway.

Our songs.

GGYF’s productions celebrate the world’s rich singing history. Our audiences will hear songs and perhaps genres for the first time and also find new relevance in familiar songs.

Our communities.

GGYF’s vocal artists bridge cultures, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds to share their talents and passion with the diverse communities of Los Angeles.

MEET THE DIRECTOR

Global Growth Youth Federation’s musical director, Sunjoo Yeo, is an accomplished soprano and a member of the LA Opera and the Los Angeles Master Chorale.  She is also a SAG-AFTRA singer.

Sunjoo has performed as a soloist in oratorios, cantatas and operas at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, McCallum Theatre and international festivals.  Most notably, she has been a featured soloist for Messiah with the Los Angeles Master Chorale and toured with the LA Philharmonic for the European premiere of The Gospel According to the Other Mary by John Adams, conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. Sunjoo also made an appearance as a soloist in the LAMC 50th Anniversary Concert

In 2014, Sunjoo made her debut as choir director for the Independent Opera Company’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She also directed members of the LA Master Chorale and the LA Opera at the 24th and 25th annual Bach to Broadway performances at St. Andrew Church in Pasadena.

Sunjoo has performed in numerous languages including Italian, French, German, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese and even Sanskrit -- for LA Opera’s performance of Satyagraha (Sanskrit for “truth force”) by Philip Glass, inspired by Gandhi’s early adulthood in South Africa.

Sunjoo received her Master’s Degree in Vocal Arts from the University of Southern California.
